If you haven’t yet determined that Spam is the greatest meat substitute EVER, then behold the almighty Spam Musem. According to Time, it’s helping redefine suburban living–what museum can claim that?

Right across from Hormel’s meat plant in Austin, Minnesota, stands the most revered place on earth: a museum paying homage to the single-most sucessful canned-meat product this side of the Atlantic. From displays highlighting the evolution of the Spam can to mock assembly lines that challenge visitors to practice the ancient art of Spam canning, it’s clear that no visitor to this humble, but delicious slice of American life can go away untainted.

Raw Spam for Spam Tartare

In previous posts, we have experimented with singing about, cooking, and making art out of our favorite meat substitute. Today Spam with Spam dares to venture where many have gone before: eating raw Spam.

Lots of things are delicious raw: carrots, sushi, even steak (well, to some–see picture below, which is NASTY), so Spam looked like it would be a piece of cake–that is, delicious!

Turns out, this assumption was correct–in fact, why bother cooking Spam at all? Simply shake out and enjoy!

Suggestions for serving: Try cutting Spam into creative shapes (any fun shaped cookie cutter–ESPECIALLY holiday-themed ones–will work) and arrange on plate as desired. Garnish with parsley or herb that will later be tossed with the trash.

Chinese take-out isn’t what it used to be–with all those silly options (white rice? brown? eggroll? soup?) and number ordering (I’ll have a ….567?), it’s a miracle anyone gets what they really want. By making Chinese food at home, you save the time and hassle of ordering while impressing your friends with your international culinary skills at the same time! And what better Chinese recipe is as impressive as Spam Fried Rice?

Spam Fried Rice: Perfect for Parties!

So what makes a perfect batch of fried rice? Day-old rice, a scrambled egg or two, a chopped onion, a couple cups of mixed vegetables (and judging by your present Spam situation, canned or frozen mixed veggies is probably what you have on hand), and the most important ingredient: Original Spam! With its natural grease, no oil will be necessary–just sautee the veggies, onion, and egg with the Spam and stir in the rice. In less than five minutes, you’ve got yourself a perfectly seasoned meal!

Spam Fried Rice: Just scoop and serve!

Easy, simple–and more importantly–grand, poor dining at its best.
